Understanding Testosterone

Testosterone is the hormone found in both man and women. Testicles produces testosterone in man and ovaries in women. Though production of testosterone in male is more then that in women.



The production of testosterone starts during puberty, at that time significantly high amount of testosterone are produced by our body and at the age of 20-21 the testosterone levels are at peak. After the age of 30 testosterone start to decrease by 1% every year.


Testosterone in human helps in various ways, like bone health, increases muscle mass, mood regulations, amount of fat storage, blood circulation, good immunity etc. But testosterone is also associated with sex and regulates sperm production in men.


Increase in testosterone in men can be done naturally with changing various eating and lifestyle habits which I'll discuss in my next blogs.


Sign Of Low Testosterone Levels

Having low testosterone or low T levels can cause various symptoms in male, and they are:


  • Lower Energy Levels

  • Decreased Sex Drive

  • Increase Amount Of Fat Accumulation

  • Weight Gain

  • Feeling Depressed And Sad

  • No Muscle Mass

  • Thinner Bone

  • Less Body Hair, or Slow hair Growth

  • Bad Moods

  • low Self-esteem Or Low Confidence


As testosterone in male drops after aging, more chronic disease occurs in male and hormonal dis balance in body or brain occurs.

Lowe immunity and having disease most of time is also the cause of lower testosterone. Testosterone also regulates goods bacteria to fight from infection as well.


Taking too much stress increases cortisol levels and decreases Testosterone levels


How To Know You Have Good Amount Of T Levels

Testosterone levels can be determined by simple blood test. As told that testosterone helps in regulate red blood cells, lots of amount of testosterone are traveling in our blood streams everytime.


Their is a several range of having testosterone in a male as well as in a female body.


University of Rochester Medical Center have given the range of having healthy testosterone in both male and women and they are.

  • Male : 280 and 1,100 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL)

  • Female : 15 and 70 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL)


Range can be vary according to you height, weight, age, and muscle mass according to study. So let your doctor understand are you in a healthy state or not.


If an adult male's testosterone levels are below 300 ng/dL, a doctor may do a diagnosis to determine the cause of low testosterone, according to the American Urological Association.


If their is a low testosterone in an adult male it means that the pituitary gland isn't working properly and need to be diagnosis soon. Low testosterone in adult produces pituitary gland problems and hormone dis balance. But if a teen have lower amount of testosterone it means delayed puberty.



How To Know That You Have Healthy Amount Of T Levels

T Levels can be understood by looking yourself into mirror as well. Testosterone in male helps regulate hair and skin as well, and also included

  • Evenly Distributed Fat And lean Muscle

  • Strong Bones

  • Better In understanding

  • Better Sex Drive (Libido)

  • Better Moods

  • Facial Hair And Defined Adam's Apple

  • Good Sperm Count.


Having good amount of testosterone in human can make them healthy and happy but having too much can also affect problems.


Sign Of High T Levels

T Levels can be in between 300-1000 ng/dL. But some studies says that having testosterone in male between 400-800 ng/dL is the best amount.

Symptoms Of Higher testosterone then normal are:

  • Acne

  • Heart Or Liver Problems

  • Headache

  • Excessive Body Hair

  • aggressive or risk-taking behaviors

  • Higher Sex drive

  • Infertility

  • Insomnia

  • Less Sperm Count

  • Mood Swings

  • Weight Gain

  • Increased Appetite


It's impossible to have very high amount of testosterone naturally, but some athelete or bodybuilder uses drugs like steroids or synthetic testosterone to increase athelete performance or muscle mass.

Suppliment with drugs is illegal but also increases testosterone levels significantly but also harmful for body as well in various ways (link)

  • Blurred vision

  • Cataracts or glaucoma

  • Easy bruising

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • High blood pressure

  • Increased appetite, weight gain

  • Increased growth of body hair

  • Insomnia

  • Lower resistance to infection

  • Muscle weakness

  • Nervousness, restlessness

  • Osteoporosis

  • Stomach irritation or bleeding

  • Sudden mood swings

  • Swollen, puffy face

  • Water retention, swelling

High Testosterone In Female.



There might be chances of having High T levels in women and women also do sometimes inject drugs to grow muscles or athletic performance

To much Testosterone in women Change their physical appearance and other symptoms are:

  • excess body hair, specifically facial hair

  • Balding

  • Acne

  • enlarged clitoris

  • decreased breast size

  • deepening of the voice

  • increased muscle mass


Overly high levels of testosterone in women can also cause:


  • Irregular Menstrual Cycles

  • low libido

  • changes in mood


Conclusion:
